About Crescent Moon Designs and Susan Houck, Owner/Designer & Editor

In May 2009, I was named one of the "Top Leading Moms in Business," through a competition sponsored by StartupNation. In the fall of 2008, I was named as a candidate for the 2008-2009 Cambridge Who's Who Among Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs. It has been an exciting adventure for me! 2009 has been explosive with two books completed: E-Learner Survival Guide, author Susan Smith Nash, Texture Press; and Journey to Purity,"author Rochelle Owens, Texture Press. I also designed a web banner badge for Heather Price's website Free Skin Care Help. I am currently under contract to design, format and edit several geological publications.

I worked twenty years on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus assisting faculty, administrators and staff on a variety of projects.  The first challenging assignment that comes to mind was to type, develop graphics and layout for Allen R. Moore, who was then Professor of Naval Science with the NROTC.  I submitted the 156-page manual, Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) Midshipman Regulations, to Mr. Moore and his team within the required time limit that was set.

Word traveled fast, and I soon became known as someone who could work on projects with complex formatting, tables, photographs and images, along with mathematical and scientific equations.  As new projects came my way, I was able to expand my design abilities by learning new tools in design and layout.  It was during this time that I developed my talent for designing and editing manuscripts.  As I began preparing camera-ready copy for publishers, I drew on my creative strengths approaching each assignment as a piece of art.

After I retired early from the University of Oklahoma in 2007, I began to think about what I truly wanted to do.  I remembered how much I enjoyed working on all of the different projects.  I have assisted in bringing to completion over 70 books, textbooks, manuals, journal articles, newsletters and brochures.  I truly enjoyed the time spent working on each one and soon realized, "This is what I want to do!".

After seeing my latest book, Die Kindsmörderin, in print and receiving a personally signed copy by Professor Madland, I immediately knew I had made the right choice.  Several other books given to me in appreciation by the author are in my personal library, and I was proud to add this one to my collection.  Receiving a compliment from a client is always appreciated, while at the same time humbling, as they deserve much more credit than I do.  It is for that reason that I give such special attention in designing each piece of work.

Each assignment is handled professionally, yet with a personal touch.  I work one-on-one with you, the printer and publisher in designing the final product.  Having worked with many people who are writers, I realize how much work goes into their project and how proud they are of it.  I take equal pride in the finished project and I hope you will give me the opportunity to make you equally proud.  Contact me and let's get started on creating a project you can be proud of!
